Tribute to our WWII Veterans

The Macon Lions Club had the distinct privilege of hosting the "World War II Veterans Recognition Luncheon" honoring those men and women of middle Georgia who served our country through military duty during the years of the second world war. Any veteran was invited as our guest to attend a luncheon and program was held on:

Thursday May 29, 2008 Vineville United Methodist Church starting at 12:00 PM and lasting approximately two hours.

The invitation was extended to any veteran of the military branches who resided in Bibb (or in an immediate surrounding county) and who served between December, 1941 thru 1945. Having served in a foreign theater of operations was NOT a requisite for inclusion.

Additionally, the veteran could be accompanied by another person of his/her choice and be included as a guest of our club.

It was intended, simply, to be our way of saying "thanks" to those who served and sacrificed during this time. The occasion featured military service themes and keynote remarks from a distinguished military general officer (retired).

Results

    Over 300 people attended this tribute.

News coverage made local TV news and also was included in the National Lions Club bulletins. Men, and all the women who were in the service and stepped forward to protect us....THANK YOU!
